Streets
The City of Shorewood maintains 50 miles of streets, including pothole patching, winter operations, street sweeping, and road tree trimming and removal. Additionally, City streets are inspected and assessed annually for any needed maintenance and hazards (resurfacing and drainage).
Street Maintenance
Public Works staff routinely patches potholes year round. Residents can report potholes by calling 952-960-7914.
The city drives every street utilizing a pavement management system. The program analyzes each road and rates them based on a scale. The program also identifies areas that have potholes so that staff can proactively identify areas that need road maintenance.
Staff developed a Pavement Management Plan (PMP) utilizing the data from the pavement management system and established best practices.
During winter operations, public works staff maintains all city owned roads, parking lots, buildings, sidewalk, trails and park areas.
To ensure the safety and well-being of residents, the City has developed a comprehensive Winter Operations Policy (PDF) that outlines strategies for snow and ice removal. At the heart of this policy is a commitment to providing safe and accessible roadways, sidewalks, trails, and facilities for all residents. Snow and ice removal is prioritized on busier thoroughfares, followed by residential streets, pedestrian facilities, and building facilities.
In order to clean up all city streets and to comply the city's stormwater permit, public works crews sweep streets in the spring and fall. The entire city takes three to four weeks to complete. All materials collected are hauled away and disposed of.
The City of Shorewood follows Minnesota Department of Transportation's regulations for road weight restrictions. Start and end dates are variable and based on how the weather is affecting roadway strength.
