Strawberry Lane
The road pavement on Strawberry Lane had significant deterioration and needed to be reconstructed. The road is a significant route to Minnewashta Elementary School for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles, and the original road design raised safety concerns. Multiple drainage concerns, documented in the Western Shorewood Drainage Study, also existed throughout the project area, and residents did not have access to municipal water.
In 2023 Strawberry Lane was reconstructed to add a sidewalk, municipal water, and address drainage issues identified in the Western Shorewood Drainage Study. The project included the full depth reconstruction of the roadway, the addition of curb and gutter, drain-tile, trunk stormwater improvements up to 48 inches in diameter, the extension of a 12 inch diameter municipal watermain and services to all properties, realignment of the LRT trail intersection for safety improvements, and a sidewalk on the east side to provide pedestrians safe access to Minnewashta Elementary School and other surrounding sidewalk & trail connections.
The estimated project costs through August 2024, including project design, land acquisition, construction, and inspections are $5.81M. The project was funded through a combination of street and utility bonds, and the City’s Water, Sanitary Sewer, and Storm Sewer Funds. The total 2023 project CIP was $6.2M.
