Welcome to the City of Shorewood! Please see below for common questions and a new resident checklist.
The City of Shorewood provides a variety of services including street and park maintenance, planning and building services, water and sewer services and snowplowing. Contract services are provided for curbside recycling and police and fire protection.
Utility Bills
The City of Shorewood offers several convenient ways in which you can pay your City Utility Bill. This includes charges associated with city water, recycling, stormwater, and sewer services.
- Save money and time by signing up for automatic payments: The City offers AutoPAY for billing of city water, recycling, storm water, and sewer services. Payments will be deducted from your checking or savings account on the day before the due date on the bill. AutoPAY customers will still get a monthly bill showing your usages and the current charges. To sign up for this service, please complete the AutoPAY form (PDF).
- Pay by credit or with debit card online: Pay online with a checking account, savings account, credit or debit card. Visit shorewoodMN.gov/billing. Click on the Online utility bill payment. Click on the “First time user? Register Now” button to set up your account for the first time. You will need a recent utility bill to complete some of the information. Complete the information and click “Register”. You will now be able to view your account balance, history, usage, and make payments. There is no charge for this service. You only need to register once and then will be able to login for future visits.
- Pay in-person: Drop off your utility bill with a check or money order payment at City Hall during business hours (M-F 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) or in the drop box outside the front of City Hall, 5755 Country Club Road.
Municipal Water & Private Wells
Some residents in the City of Shorewood are part of the municipal water system; others have private wells. Properties with the municipal water are guaranteed clean, safe drinking water that meets all state safety conditions. Municipal water is checked on a regular basis for bacteria and contaminants. A water report is published annually and is available to all residents. Residents using private wells are responsible for the safety and maintenance of their wells. It is advised that well water be tested for both bacterial contaminants and heavy metals, such as arsenic. City ordinance requires rental housing on well water MUST be tested for arsenic, nitrates and coliform bacteria at least every three years.

Website & Social Media
Communications staff develop and maintain the City’s website, working with city departments to post updates. They also maintain the City’s social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and X, and provide city posts on Nextdoor.

News Flash
News Flash (news articles found on city's website) informs residents of what is happening in and around Shorewood. Web users have the option to sign up for notifications or changes to news articles that are posted on the website via email and text messages through Notify Me®.
Email Lists & Electronic Newsletters
The City of Shorewood regularly sends emails to inform community members about news and provide updates relating to various topics, such as city projects, agenda packets, and events. You can subscribe to all email lists or choose by topics of interest at shorewoodmn.gov/signup.
ShoreReport
Each household in Shorewood receives a printed newsletter in the mail called the ShoreReport. It includes news articles, event and meeting calendars, and important information. The ShoreReport is published every other month and is available online in addition to print. If you have not received the ShoreReport, sign up to be added to the mailing list and the ShoreReport email list.
Emergency Alerts
The city has a public alert system that allows staff to contact residents in case of emergency situations affecting specific properties. This might include water shutoffs due to watermain breaks, sewer issues, road closures, recycling delays and similar issues. Sign up to receive emergency alerts
Other Publications
A wide variety of print materials, such as flyers and postcards, are produced by city staff and project partners. Many items are mailed directly to homes to keep residents informed of important citywide events or included as links and downloads throughout the City’s website.
Cable Television
Cable/Internet services are offered through a franchise agreement with Mediacom Communications. Mediacom may be reached at 800.790.8187.
Electricity
Electric service in the city is provided by Xcel Energy. Please contact Xcel for all electricity requests and issues. Report electrical outages online or by phone, 800-895-1999.
Natural gas
Gas for Shorewood residents is provided by Centerpoint Energy. Please contact Centerpoint for all natural gas requests. If you smell gas suspect a gas leak, leave the building and call 9-1-1. For non-emergency issues, contact Centerpoint online, or by phone, 612.372.4727.
Phone/Internet
Landline phone and Internet service is offered by a number of different providers in Shorewood. To see a list of providers, download this handout (PDF) or search online.
Metronet
Metronet is installing fiber optic throughout Shorewood to provide internet services to residents and businesses. To learn more about Metronet in Shorewood and to submit questions or concerns, visit Metronet's construction website or call their customer service line at 877-386-3876.
The City of Shorewood requires certain businesses to be licensed by the City. This licensing ensures that the businesses are insured and are legally operating. If you are going to use of the following services, you should make sure they are licensed by the City.
- Tree Trimmers: Tree Trimmers who work in Shorewood are required to be licensed by the city. By hiring a city licensed tree trimmer you can be assured that their insurance and state licensing is up to date. Licenses must be renewed yearly. Please report unlicensed trimmers to the City at 952-960-7900, so they can get the proper license. Please make sure your tree trimmer is aware that transporting ash wood along Highway 7 might cross into Carver County and could result in a fine due to quarantine.
- Residential Refuse Haulers: City of Shorewood does not offer trash collection. Residents should contract with their choice hauler from the list of licensed trash haulers below. Refuse haulers in Shorewood are required to offer trash rate reductions for residents choosing to use a smaller garbage container. If your trash container is consistently not full, contact your hauler to see if you what lower rate is offered with a smaller container. The four licensed haulers are the only haulers that can be used for residential hauling in Shorewood.
- Recycling: Recycling services in the City of Shorewood are contracted through City Hall for the entire city. For questions regarding recycling, contact City Hall at 952-960-7900. Carts are provided at no additional charge by Republic Services. If one was not left at your home, please contact City Hall.
The City of Shorewood is divided into four precincts for city elections. The city website has complete election information and links to many election information websites at shorewoodmn.gov/elections.
City Council
The Shorewood City Council is composed of a mayor and four councilmembers. City Council typically meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Shorewood City Hall. Due to holidays and other such occurrences, the council meetings are occasionally change dot different days. Visit the Shorewood City Council web page for up-to-date information and to view meeting agendas, minutes, and recordings.
Commissions
