Tree Removals Scheduled for Hennepin County Mill Street Pathway Project
Hennepin County is leading a collaborative effort with Excelsior, Shorewood, and Chanhassen to construct a new multi-use pathway along Mill Street (County Road 82), stretching from 2nd Street in downtown Excelsior to Holly Lane. The project aims to improve safety and accessibility for residents who walk, bike, or roll. In addition to the new trail, the project includes pavement resurfacing on Mill Street and potential improvements like grassy boulevards or bikeable shoulders depending on the section. As part of the project, Shorewood is considering to extend watermain on Apple Road and Mill Street from Excelsior city limits to Brandt Circle. A final decision by City Council regarding watermain installation is expected in April.
Construction is currently scheduled to launch this spring. While working to reduce tree impacts as much as possible, the county has scheduled tree removals to begin as early as this week (last week of February) through the end of March 2026.
