The City of Shorewood, in coordination with Hennepin County, is removing dead ash trees in Freeman Park due to the emerald ash borer (EAB). The removals are necessary to protect public safety, reduce the spread of EAB, and begin long-term efforts to restore a healthy and resilient urban forest. We anticipate removal efforts in Freeman Park to take 12-18 months to complete. We appreciate resident’s patience with removal efforts as park trails will be closed where tree removal efforts are occurring.
The City of Shorewood plans to develop a reforestation plan that will include replanting trees in Freeman Park with more diverse species to improve long-term forest health and canopy coverage. If you have any questions, please contact the city at 952-960-7913.
