Tree Management for Residents
Residents may qualify for tree management services offered through the City of Shorewood or Hennepin County. See below for more information.
If you have an oak, ash or elm tree that you have concerns about, the city has contracted with Davey Resource Group, Inc. for a free evaluation of the tree. This service is provided June to September.
To make an appointment for tree evaluation, please call city hall at 952-960-7900. Only appointments made through the city will be covered by this program.
If you have a question regarding other tree species, you are encouraged to contact an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist.
Tree Trimmers who work in Shorewood are required to be licensed by the city. By hiring a city licensed tree trimmer you can be assured that their insurance and state licensing is up to date. Licenses must be renewed yearly. Please report unlicensed trimmers to the City at 952-960-7900, so they can get the proper license.
Please make sure your tree trimmer is aware that transporting ash wood along Highway 7 might cross into Carver County and could result in a fine due to quarantine.
Hennepin County Urban & Community Forestry offers a tree removal and replacement program for property owners who live at their property and whose household income is under $97,800 (for households from 1 to 4 people).
Qualifying residents are encouraged to sign up to get notified when the next application period is open at beheardhennepin.org/urban-community-forestry.
Each year, the City of Shorewood offers a tree sale for residents to purchase container trees (ranging in size from 6 to 8 feet) at wholesale prices. The purpose of the tree sale is to restore and improve woodland areas, increase wildlife habitat, and diversify the city forestry.
