Property Valuation
The City of Shorewood contracts with Hennepin County Assessor's Office for establishing the market value and determining classification (use) of property located within the city. Also, the Assessor's Office maintains the city's property database and is the primary source of property information for city and community use.

Valuation Notices
Hennepin County is is required to assign market value to properties, as of January 2 each year. Valuation notices are sent in March each year.
Homestead Taxes
In order to receive homestead for the current assessment year, applicants or a qualifying relative(s) must own, occupy the property as their main residence, and apply by December 31. Property Taxes
Property taxes are paid to the Hennepin County Auditor and redistributed to the city and other government jurisdictions such as school boards and the county. Property tax statements are mailed in March. The taxes are based on the estimated market value for the previous year. The payment of one-half of the tax is due by May 15 and the balance by October 15.
